The Pacifier is, quite frankly, a terrifically gripping tale. While the writing at times can be simplistic and there are a few grammatical errors, the story never weakens and you will find yourself turning the page without even thinking about it to find out what happens next. This isn’t typically the style of writing I gravitate to but the story is just so good with a plot that has twists and turns that I found myself not being able to put it down, even when I wanted to.
The plot of this story follows two parents, Sophie and John, who just arrived home from a company affair only to discover that their two children, Charlie and Sally, along with their babysitter, Gemma, are nowhere to be found. The events that transpire afterwards is a whirlwind of emotions as the parents are desperately trying to figure out where their children have gone and, most importantly, find out who took them and why.
The bad guys are really despicable characters and you will find yourself rooting for Sally, Charlie, and Gemma as if they were dear and close friends to you. There is a lot of suspense with sequences that really throw a punch. You will find yourself saying things like “No!” or “Run!” or even sometimes an expletive (only when the bad guys are involved). This book will have you enthralled and practically begging for more.
There is never a dull moment in this story and once you get started, you will not be able to put it down until you have finished. This is a very quick read as you aren’t bombarded with paragraph after paragraph of detail and pointless scenery. This actually allows for you to imagine what everything looks like, kind of like a real crime drama. My only complaint is that Part 1 left off with a real cliffhanger. I can’t wait to read Part 2 and find out what happens next!
